Norwegian Limbo – from Haugesund to Montreal

Norwegian director Marie Sødahl’s feature debut, Limbo, which will open the 38th Norwegian International Film Festival in Haugesund on 21 August, will continue its travel to Canada, where it will unspool in competition at the 34th Montreal International Film Festival between 26 August-6 September.

Scripted by Sødahl, and starring Line Vernedal (Sonia), Henrik Rafaelsen (Jo), Swedish actress Lena Endre and Australian actor Bryan Brown, Limbo is ”a coming-of-age story for grown-ups” set among a young Norwegian family in 1973. Jo is stationed in Trinidad, where he works in the oil industry, and he is joined by his wife Sonia and their two children. Sonia is introduced to a homeless class of men who have the whole world as their workplace - and their wives, who follow them wherever their contracts take them. On the surface these women live lives in luxury with large houses and servants. The days are uneventful and blend together into an everlasting holiday, where the women nurse their superficial relationships over cocktails poolside – the perfect climate for self-delusion.

LIMBO is a film about love, betrayal and desperation in a country far from home.

Anita Simovic will be attending the New Nordic Films market in Haugesund between August 18 and 20.

Ann-Kristin Westerberg will be present at the Montreal World Film Festival between August 27 and 31.
