Set in the heady post-war England of the 1950s, the film tells the story of 16-year-old Jack following the haunting death of his beloved mother Emily in the War.
On the day of Jack’s 16th Birthday the doorbell rings and, devastatingly, unbelievably, Jack’s mother appears before his bereaved family in the shape of beautiful Swedish stranger, Nancy Ackerman, looking for lodgings in their vacant basement flat.
Soon proving an irresistible lure to the naval town’s army of sailors, Nancy seems both Heaven and Hell for Jack and his grieving father Ron. Is she a guardian angel sent to rescue them? Or an unquiet ghost, destined to taunt them forever?
