In post-war Sweden the body of a young serviceman mysteriously washes up on the shore of a remote island, unleashing a bitter power struggle and revealing the affair between the local landowner and a radical young schoolteacher.
With the news that the island will soon be given over entirely to the military an uneasy reconciliation is affected by the landowner’s wife. Finally, the tiny community turns it’s gaze back out to the wider world, where a new cold war world order faces them.
