The Count of Old Town

The Count of Old Town

This is a story about a gang of crooks and booze smugglers and their girl friends in the Old City of Stockholm.

It is a kind of thriller. Ingrid Bergman plays the daughter of a woman who owns a small bachelor hotel where the crooks hide out. A lot of money changes hands and is hidden in such unlikely places as under herring in the local fish market. One of the crooks is a gigolo who manages to trick a local lady out of 28 000 kronor, but in the end the crooks are made honest by a fortuitous win on the football pool, so that they are able to return all stolen money to its rightful owners. The film ends with a double wedding of two of the crooks, Gurkan and the Count, with their girl friends Amalia and Klara.
