Just Another Day at the Office

Just Another Day at the Office

Håvard Melnæs has dreamt of being a journalist for as long as he can remember. He wants to change the world with the power of the pen, to uncover abuse of power and stand up for the little people. Things don’t exactly turn out the way he envisioned. But he does become a journalist of sorts.

Just Another Day at the Office is based on the true story of a young journalist, working for a gossip magazine, who lets himself get carried away by his editor’s demands and his fellow paparazzo’s cheers of admiration. Good intentions and high ideals are swiftly replaced by fat pay checks and dubious methods - anything for a good story. Håvard Melnæs becomes the magazine’s number one reporter, the golden boy who sniffs up the dirt on celebrities – in particular on the royal family.

The story is set in the period of time that crown princess Mette-Marit became part of the Norwegian royal family. It gives an unvarnished account of what lies behind the headlines at Se og Hør, the nation’s best selling weekly. Håvard Melnæs quickly learns that money, flattery and half-truths are what keep the printing press running. But his real success comes after secretly befriending the father of future crown princess Mette-Marit, the scandalous Sven O Høiby.

Just Another Day at the Office is a fantastic and tragicomic story of an unlikely friendship built on the absurd. It is also an account of one of the most intriguing media stories of our time.
