Brenda Brave
This touching story is about a little girl of six who is a foundling.
She was left on the doorstep of a poor old woman when she was a baby. The old lady, whose only income is earned from selling peppermint sticks at the local market, took her in, adopted her as her grandchild and gave her the name Brenda Brave, because she is such a plucky girl. She reveals this pluckiness when her ”grandma” breaks a leg and is confined to bed over Christmas. Brenda takes over the selling of the peppermint candy at the market. She is very successful at this and her reward is a beautiful doll that she has longed to have for months, but which her grandmother could not afford.
