Waldemar Bergendahl began working in the film business in the late 1950s, when he worked closely with Bo Widerberg on the features ”The Pram”, ”Raven’s End”, and ”Elvira Madigan” to name but a few. After shooting “The Ballad of Joe Hill” (1970), he spent a few years working as a freelancer, during which time he worked with i.a. Sidney Lumet and Jerry Lewis. In 1975 director Olle Hellbom brought him over to Svensk Filmindustri where Waldemar produced some 50 features before ”Arn – The Knight Templar”. He is best known for all the Astrid Lindgren films (e.g. Pippi Longstocking) he made together with Olle Hellbom and Lasse Hallström. Waldemar was also the producer of Lasse Hallström’s famous feature ”My Life as a Dog”.
