Kjell Sundvall was born in 1953 and grew up in Älsvbyn in the north of Sweden.

At the start of the ’80s he worked at Tiger Film, the company that he founded together with Börje Hansson and Kjell-Åke Andersson. The collaboration resulted in several acclaimed and much-talked-about TV films. Since then, he has alternated between directing TV productions and feature films, including the Beck crime series.

Kjell Sundvall made his feature film debut in 1983 and has since made a number of features, including the critically acclaimed box-office hits The Hunters (1996), The Guy in the Grave Next Door (2002), The Threat (2004) and The Karlsson Brothers (2010).

He received a Guldbagge for best director for his work on The Hunters, as well as a nomination for best director for The Guy in the Grave Next Door.
