Since graduating from the Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Art in 1988 Helena Bergström has worked continuously both at The Royal Dramatic Theatre and the City Theatre in Stockholm, as well as starring in one successful film after another. It all started with her performance in Women on the Roof followed by the major Swedish production 1939. Colin Nutley cast her in the lead of his movie BlackJack in 1990. Bergström was then his obvious choice for the hugely successful House of Angels as well as its sequel House of Angels – the Second Summer.

In 1992, Ms. Bergström was voted Film Personality of the Year by the readers of daily paper Expressen for her performance in House of Angels, and Favourite Actress by the viewers of Swedish TV4 in 1995.

In 1993, she won a Guldbagge at the Swedish Film Awards for best actress in a leading role for her performances in The Ferris Wheel and The Last Dance, the latter going on to win her the best actress awards at both the Montreal and Istanbul Film Festivals in 1994 and 1995 respectively.

In 1998, she played the part of Astrid in the English production Still Crazy, which was followed by Colin Nutley’s Oscar-nominated Under the Sun - a film that also received the Special Jury Prize at the San Sebastian Film Festival "for the quality of its acting".

Ms. Bergström is also one of Sweden’s most highly acclaimed stage actresses, playing lead roles in plays like Miss Julie, A Dolls House, Hamlet in Hamlet, Medea and more.
