Bo Widerberg

Bo Widerberg was born in 1930 in Malmoe and made his debut as an author in 1952. During the following 10 years he became one of the most prominent writers of his generation.

He wrote and published several novels and short stories before turning his pen to film criticism for Sweden's largest newspaper in 1960. His book "A Vision of Swedish Cinema" caused a storm of controversy, in 1962, with its scathing attack on his country's film industry and in particular its monopolization by certain established directors. The book was widely read and much discussed and also the start of Widerberg's career as a film director.
